Children travelling alone

When children travel alone on NSB trains, they must have a safe and enjoyable time onboard. And it is also important that, as a parent, you feel confident about your child travelling alone.

The Ombudsman for Children in Norway recommends a lower age limit of 10 years for children travelling alone. For longer journeys, involving a change of trains, children should be 12 or older. At NSB, we support this recommendation and also stress that parents themselves must assess their child's maturity.

One good idea is for an adult to travel with the child for the first few times, so that the child is familiar with the trip, and the parent can see if the child feels safe and can manage alone.
