Pets onboard

Dogs and other small pets are warmly welcome onboard all NSB's trains. You are responsible for getting the dog on and off the train and ensuring that your pet remains in the compartment during the journey.

Dogs must stay on the floor. Please make sure the dog remains on a leash throughout the journey. Dogs and other pets may not be taken into sleeping compartments, dining cars, or disabled/children’s coaches. If you are travelling on a train which has seat reservations, it is important to tell us in advance that you want to bring your dog or other pet with you. We will then be able to allocate you a seat in a part of the train where pets are allowed.

If you take your dog onboard without having reserved a seat, the onboard personnel will direct you to a suitable seat.

Guide dogs
Guide dogs accompanying blind passengers and trainee guide dogs always travel free on NSB’s trains when on service (in other words, when they are fitted with a harness and a hand grip for the blind passenger). Other pets with a shoulder height of less than 40 cm also travel free.

Dogs with a shoulder height of over 40 cm travel at 50% of the standard adult fare on NSB’s trains.

NB! Ruter charge a child’s fare for a dog, whatever its size, in the counties of Oslo and Akershus. The number of seats will vary according to the rolling stock/train used. You are therefore advised to contact the NSB Call Centre on +47 815 00 888 or your local station for more information. If you are having difficulties in getting through using this phone number, please use the following: +47 23 15 15 15
